A Warm Welcome
Welcome Message
Greetings and warmest welcome to Ipoh, Perak! The silver state is full of hidden gems, strongly preserving its rich array of tropical rainforest and natural wonders hidden in the lush mountain ranges of the Titiwangsa as well as its ethnic, linguistic and cultural diversity, even as it remains one of the steadily progressive states of the West Peninsula.
When we reflect on our surgical practice and training, we find that evolution is inevitable. What was previously rigid, dogmatic and based on anecdotal experiences changed at the turn of the 20th century with the adoption of principles by Flexner and Osler that has produced scientifically grounded, evidence-based and clinically skilled clinicians. Clinical research boomed, practice guidelines were streamlined and technological advances began modernizing medicine as we know it.
Demands, economical, scientific and societal changes since the millennial era are challenging how we practice medicine now and in the foreseeable future. We now talk about precision medicine, information accountability and technological incorporation into our surgical
practice, training and research. The sustenance of a healthy futuristic surgical community requires a continuous enhancement of non-technical skills for both trainers and trainees as well as recognizing the importance of inclusivity, diversity, equity and healthcare sustainability in our practice.
As we move forward from the confining Covid-19 times, it is only appropriate that the theme for this year’s Symposium to be Bringing You Tomorrow, Today. We need to reflect on the past, look at what is in the future and how we are to bring the future to application today. The vast array of topics carefully selected throughout the entire program is designed specifically with this in mind.
The organizing committee extends its sincere appreciation to all the speakers and sponsors for their generosity and support in making this Symposium a success.
